The Skills Centre PLUS Programmes are designed to develop life skills with young people with a learning difficulty and/or disability and prepare them for sustainable, paid employment by equipping them with the skills and experience needed for work.

The Learning Environment:

At PLUS we work with vulnerable young people in small groups and after an initial period of working with them, we design a bespoke programme around individual needs. This helps individuals settle in quickly and to develop and flourish.

Each Intern has access to a job coach throughout the programme.  The job coach helps to match the right employers to the Intern and then to guide both employer and Intern through the work experience element of the programme.  We have found that if we get this right it increases the prospect of full time employment for the Intern

Interns attend the Skills Centre three days per week over an academic year and work towards:

  • NCFE Employability Qualification
  • Confidence Building
  • Employment orientation with a Job Coach
  • Supported Work Experience
  • Development of team skills
  • Development of Maths and English at the appropriate level for the learner

Key Objectives of the Supported Internship Programme:

The programme is designed to develop personal employability skills around the seven strands of the North Lincolnshire Employability Framework. In essence this is to equip our Interns with the knowledge and experience to move into either full time employment or progression to further education/apprenticeship or traineeship.
