Thank a Teacher Day

Every year the UK celebrates Thank a Teacher Day, a day dedicated to teachers and considering the impact that they have had in our lives and to thank them for all they have contributed to our country. The day is spearheaded by the Thank a Teacher Campaign which is dedicated to celebrating schools, teachers and support staff across the country. Furthermore, the day coincides with the campaign’s annual announcements of the Silver Winners for the Pearson National Teaching Awards.

In support of the campaign many famous people have talked about their experiences with teachers who have changed their lives for the better. The list includes but is not limited to:
Cressida Cowell- author of the ‘How to Train your Dragon’ cildrens’ book series
Ian Wright- TV and radio presenter and ex Arsenal footballer
Nadiya Hussain- chef, author and television presenter
Helen Mirren- actress and only actor to ever achieve the Triple Crown of Acting in both the United States and United Kingdom
and Michael Morpurgo- childrens’ laureate, author and president of the Teaching Awards Trust.

Mirren wrote that her “journey began with a great teacher.” and Hussain revealed that “We didn’t bake at home but my Home Economics teacher Mrs Marshall planted that seed in my head…”

Teachers are an integral part of educating children, preparing them for later life and often shaping who they are. A great teacher can be the difference in the job a student acquires or the next step they take in their journey and will always ensure that a student reaches their full potential. Great teachers work as part of a team and enrich the lives of not just students but their colleagues as well.

Skills Centre Plus is honoured to have many such teachers working as part of our team to bring the best out of every one of our students. One such teacher was entered into the National Teaching Awards and was awarded with a ‘Highly Commended’ certificate for Excellence in Special Needs Education alongside a handwritten letter from the President of the Teaching Awards Trust, Michael Morpurgo.

We at Skills Centre Plus would like to congratulate Debby on her award which she has earned through her dedication to the young people she supports. Her understanding and empathy coupled to her skill in communicating with young people enables them to grow in understanding and be the best that they can be.
